Making the Move to Senior Independent Living at The Stayton

Any time you’re considering a move it’s a big decision, but when you factor in your healthcare needs and long-term care preferences, the choice to move to a senior independent living community can feel especially daunting. We’re here to help.

The better informed you feel, the easier it will be to make the decision that’s right for you. Whether you’re still on the fence about senior living communities or actively exploring your options, here’s what the move-in process at The Stayton looks like from start to finish.

1. Find your luxury independent living community

If you’re still weighing your options, first evaluate the benefits of living in a luxury retirement community, namely, a hassle-free lifestyle and peace of mind that comes with financial security and reliable healthcare. Then identify at least three independent living communities near you that you wish to tour. Schedule an in-person or virtual visit to get a better feel for the culture of the community and try to picture yourself living there. If it doesn’t feel right, continue looking elsewhere. If you see yourself there, explore the community further — chat with residents to hear what they love about living there and attend an event or have a meal on campus to get a taste of community life.

The Stayton at Museum Way is a premier luxury retirement community located in the heart of the Forth Worth’s West 7th Cultural District. When you tour The Stayton, you’ll find urban living at its finest and culture around every corner. Our residents are enthusiastic, salt-of-the-earth folks who are passionate about life. Whether attending a lecture on Monet’s early years, enjoying a performance by the Fort Worth Opera, learning about Fort Worth’s storied stockyards, strolling the Kimbell or Amon Carter museums or taking in the views from our Skyline Restaurant, there are endless possibilities for exploring and enjoying life at The Stayton.

2. Secure your home at the stayton

Once you decide The Stayton is the perfect high-rise senior living option for you, contact our sales team to select your new apartment. We can evaluate the needs and desires to help narrow down the floor plan that fits your lifestyle. With your apartment selected, you’ll sign a reservation contract and put down a deposit to secure your space. Next, we’ll provide you with confidential paperwork for your financial and medical assessments.

As a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) offering a Type A Life Care contract, these assessments help ensure the safety and security of your future. The cost of our health services, including skilled nursing and memory care, are already included in your monthly fee, so should the time come for additional support, there’s no unexpected cost.

3. Confirm the closing date

With the financial and medical assessments complete, we’ll confirm the closing date on your new home and put you in touch with our resident move-in coordinator. Closing at The Stayton can take up to 90 days, but is often less than that. We find that once our soon-to-be residents start the process of moving, they are ready and excited to move in.

The first thing our move-in coordinator will do is discuss your personalization preferences for your new home. We’ll get those updates completed before your closing date and keep you in the loop throughout the process.

4. Start downsizing and packing

Perhaps the most difficult part of the entire process involves selling your home and downsizing your possessions. Our best piece of advice? Break it down into smaller tasks — go room by room starting with your least-used room or set a dedicated period of time to focus on sorting your belongings. Years of memories and emotions are likely to arise as you go through this process — take your time to acknowledge them or even write them down. Recruiting adult children or other family members to help in this process can also make it easier.

Meeting the needs of our residents is our number one priority, and that includes helping throughout the entire moving process. If you don’t already have preferred contacts, our move-in coordinator will gladly connect you with professional organizers, a moving company and a real estate company to help you through the many steps of moving.

Should you desire, our move-in coordinator can also come to your home to assess your furniture and help you decide what will fit in your new space and what can be sold or donated.

5. Moving day

When the big day finally arrives, we’ll start with your closing appointment, where you’ll sign any remaining documents and get the keys to your new home. Then, it’s all yours! We’ll help get your movers situated with easy access to the doors and elevator and assist with unloading and unpacking your items.

It’s always a good reminder to keep some of your must-have items accessible. We recommend having your medications and other toiletries handy as well as household essentials like paper towels, toilet paper and garbage bags. That way you aren’t scrambling through boxes to find those items or having to run unnecessary errands on moving day.

6. Settle in at The Stayton

Once the movers are done, be sure to take a break. Moving is exhausting! You didn’t get everything packed up in one day, so it will likely take some time to get it all unpacked as you settle into your new home.

Hanging treasured artwork or family photos is a sure-fire way to put your stamp on your new home. As you get acclimated and decide where you’d like those items hung, give maintenance a call and we’ll take care of that for you. That’s what we’re here for!

Getting to know you is important to us. Over your first few weeks many of our team members will stop by to welcome you, answer any questions you might have and do anything else we can to help you get settled in.

All you need to do is relax and enjoy all that The Stayton at Museum Way has to offer.
